The New SNAWD

Geez, how time flies. It's almost a month already!
Well, now that I'm around, I guess it's time for a little update about SNAWD.

Introducing our new members!

First up, we have the-one-who-does-not-talk-much-but-is-an-excellent-poser, Gan Chun Ming!

The one who is sheepish, Royston!

The camera-shy girl, Jia Qi!

And not to forget, Min June who sadly could not join us for the training.

It's been a helluva memorable two weeks, and I greatly appreciate the time shared with each and every one of you. Let's hope for more fun times in the new future, shall we?

MSSM

Woah! Seeing everyone work so hard towards a common goal makes my blood boil!
Very well, I shall give my individual wishes to everyone here.

Denice,
Remember what you're fighting for, who you're fighting for. Keep the fire burning for everyone who has high hopes for you, and also for yourself. Nail all your weaknesses. Think. Think hard. And when you're done with that, you're ready to kick ass once again. Hit 'em hard! Pull of a stunt like never before! Remember to show me your shiny, gold medal. (or maybe two shiny gold medals =D)

Xiang Ting,
Fear not, what you are weak in. Fear will only serve to weaken your weakness even more. Smother your spear with love. Believe in her. Believe that she will not disappoint, for I will pray, and pray very hard for her to assist you in performing your very best. Have faith in his teachings. Have faith that you will prevail. Have faith that you will pierce the heavens.

Andrea,
I believe that you do not need any motivation from me, nor would you need any advice, since what you have accomplished far exceeds that of mine. All I have to say is, if you don't win, if you don't show me TWO shiny gold medals, I will stare at you, creep you out, creep you out until you cry. Mark my words. XD

Wei Yoong,
Quoting Nike, "Just do it".

Hou Yi,
From what I've heard from my mom, you've been working very, very hard lately. Keep it up! I haven't seen you train in a while, so I can't really give you any advice. But I know you'll always do your very best. Take heart. I await your awesome performance.

Rocky,
你啊!肩膀放松了没有啊?老毛病快点改掉啊!去年你说你很欣赏我的认真,现在我对你说,我也是很欣赏你的努力的,知道吗?看好你咯!别令我失望!张帅,加油!

Kah Chun,
I don't know if you ever read this blog, but I guess I should write something for you too. I don't really know you well, but all I can say is remember to get the flavour of your moves right. Open up, and show off your amazing grace. I really, really hope that I could be there to cheer for you, but it's a pity that I have no leave. Make your debut a crowd-stunning one, okay? Go, kid!

Wan Chee,
Hmm..... I really can't think of anything to say. What I do know is that this, being your first competition ever, will certainly be nerve-racking. That is normal. Quoting Natalie, "A competition is just a training session with pretty clothes". Do what you always do, and do it right. Jia you!

Jia Jun,
Kid! Have you been training hard? Haven't heard from you lately. I hope you are. Anyway, this is your third major competition already, so it shouldn't be much of a problem, right? Tell you what, if you get medals, I get you pudding. Deal? Now go swing your Indian sword and get gold! Gold gold gold FTW! =D

--------------------------------------------------------------------

*Side note: Since Amelia claims, and insists, that she too, will be competing, I shall act like I have the intelligence of a 5 year old for once and write one for her.

Amelia,
Geez. Why am I even doing this. Anyway, I guess you have a clear mind on what you should do, and what you should not do. I think you'll be able to achieve a balance in all aspects just fine. At any cost, press on. Get rid of all distractions (although distractions in minute amounts are fine), and be focused on your goal. I'll be here for you. Always.

And yes, that post doesn't necessarily have to refer to any specific event. It's just for you.

MCA president lauds association for promoting sports and cultural events

By CHITRA S. NATHAN
metro@thestar.com.my

MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek has commended the Negri Sembilan Chin Woo Athletic Association for promoting sports and cultural events.

“I hope the association, through its many sporting and cultural activities, continues to contribute to society and our nation,” he told an audience of almost 1,000 people at the Chung Hua High School in Seremban on Monday.

The association is the second oldest in the country and has some 1,000 members, including students from 40 schools statewide.

In action: Wushu athletes performing during the anniversary celebration.

Association president Chong Kim Fatt said the association was started to promote wushu, a Chinese martial art, not just for self-defence but as an activity with health benefits.

Chong said wushu, although rooted in Chinese culture, could be practised by anyone regardless of race or religion.

“We hope to get more people involved in this sport. At the moment, we have a few Malay and Indian students in our association.

He said wushu was now practised in more than 100 countries in the International Wushu Federation.

Chong said the first national inter-school wushu championship would be held in Seremban next month attesting to the association’s efforts in promoting the sport.

Thank you: Chua (right) receiving a token of appreciation from Chong (centre). With them is Kee.

“Negri Sembilan was the first state to organise an inter-school wushu competition a few years ago and this was thanks to the support and cooperation we received from the state government.

Now, we will be hosting our first national meet with more than 1,000 athletes from 12 states taking part,” he said, adding that the association’s wushu athletes had represented the state and country at national and international meets.

Guests at the function were treated to a dinner and entertainment with Chinese drum performances and wushu displays throughout the four-hour event.

This year also marks the association’s centennary celebration.

The movement was founded a century ago in Shanghai by grandmaster Huo Yuanjia to promote wushu as an art form under a common banner.

Since its establishment, the movement has spread its wings across the globe and there are now 19 branches in Malaysia.

Also present at the event was Malaysian Wushu Federation president Datuk Seri Kee Yong Wee.

A Tale of Two SNAWDians in Singapore

Yesterday, I went to Bugis to accompany Natalie in her search for a new laptop. Also present were Aunty Eve, Nat's grandmother and Nat's cousin sam gor (I forgot his name =P).

We browsed through several shops in Sim Lim Square. After looking through several brands like Fujitsu, Asus and Dell, and listening to many salesmen talking about the pros and cons of various brands, Nat finally settled for the Dell Inspiron 14R. However, since it was to be paid for by instalments, sam gor had to make a cash deposit first. So, we walked all the way to Sim Lim Tower, only to be told that the UOB Bank is situated in Fu Lu Shou complex, which is in the opposite direction from where we came from =.= So we walked, and walked, and walked, then made the cash deposit, and walked and walked back to Sim Lim Square. Then we had to wait for the card to be processed. So we waited, and waited, and in the process saw an Indonesian family bargaining for 6 Dell Netbooks (that rich guy was going to buy one for every one of his kids I guess).

At about 7pm, the purchase was finally completed, and we made our way to the McDonald's outlet at Bugis Junction where Aunty Eve was already waiting. We had our dinner and a fairly long session of chit chat while waiting for sam gor to get his car, which was parked somewhere at Bencoolen Street. Sam gor eventually arrived, and Natalie and I parted ways once again.

Nothing beats being with family.

Family IV

Same month as now, a year ago.

I first returned.
I returned without the knowledge that such a great change would happen to me.

That June, I finally belonged.
That June, I found a family.

Then I left.

---------------------------------------

I returned again.
Bonds strengthened, new memories formed.

I left.
I realized that longing for love is what makes living worthwhile.

---------------------------------------

Yet again, I returned.
That two months was perhaps the best two months that I could ever wish for.
The love was heavenly. The love of a family.
Nothing can be compared to such bliss.

When I left once again, I died.

---------------------------------------

I returned. I was reborn.
We cheered. We celebrated. We smiled. We laughed.
All I longed for, all realized.

Soon, I will arise and go.
I can already feel myself dying.
But I will persist.
I will continue to long. Continue to love.
Continue to seek bliss in the memories we share.

My heart and soul, I shall leave behind.

SUKMA

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

SUKMA

To the SUKMA trio,

Not every SNAWDian will be able to witness your amazing grace,
Not every SNAWDian will be able to cheer their hearts out for you,

But be assured,

that every SNAWDian will be there for you, to support you,
that your hearts will be strengthened by the will of every SNAWDian,
so long as you believe.

May you prevail, may you be victorious.
Lady luck shine upon your battles.

How To Layer 2 Pictures Perfectly With Paint

Also known as "Why Hou Yi Should Love Me More".

1. Nick 2 photos you need off the internet.
2. If necessary, use your art program of choice to change pictures to block colors. I will not divulge my art program here, it is TOP SECRET. And NOT Paint.
3. Open both in Paint.
4. In Picture A, use the Free-Form Select tool to cut around the part of the picture you want layered on top of Picture B.
5. Copy and paste to picture B. Position.
6. Using the Pick Color tool, select the color you want layered on top of Picture A/B, which ever one you want to appear behind.
7. Zoom in 400%.
8. Using the largest Brush tool (square), painstakingly go over every single offending pixel that should not appear. In other words, paint over the bits you don't want to be seen. EVERY SINGLE PIXEL!
9. Using the second largest Brush tool (square), repeat step 8.
10. Using the smallest Brush tool (square), repeat step 8.
11. Zoom in 800%, if needed. Touch up.
12. Zoom back to 50% and see if anything is lacking.

DONE!

Hey guys, let me know what you think.

Front: Across chest

OR

Back: Across shoulder blades

Any features, colors or fonts you like/don't like can easily be fixed. But constructive criticism only, please! No whining, either.

Have not decided on the shirt color/design color, I only did it in black and white as a sample.

I like the back, though. It's cute.

Alternative Hobbies

Hi people. If you guys are considering a new, different hobby other than wushu, perhaps you could try...

DANCING! The bad-ass kind!

WOOHOO!

Hey.

Just got home from an outing with the original SNAWD gang (all others are pirated versions); Julie, Wei Yoong, Amelia, Andrea (pirate! arr!), Denice, Choy Brothers.

Great time with great people, I say.

THANK YOU WAI HO FOR STARBUCKS! YAAAH!

SNAWD, all I can say is that I certainly hope you know where your loyalties should lie. Say the word, and we are there. Will you be there for us in return?

My Life

Well, Amelia asked for a post regarding my life. So my life it is.

For now, the only thing that concerns me is

The National Inter-school Wushu Championships

which is to be held from the 6th to the 16th of April.

Root for me, guys. I'm gonna need all the support I can get.

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

It has, once again, come to my realization that I will most probably

NEVER
be seeing the Choy brothers again.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Monday, March 22, 2010

YES! Finally!

Oh megawd, finally another post from someone who is not me. Yippee! Okay, in sticking with the 1, 2, 3 format, I shall make my due reply.

1. Why don't we try MHRB's friend's shop in SS15? I think it's called Printstone or something like that. That's where he printed our white shirt.
Not too sure about the price for the shirt though. Nadia did her Interact shirt at Subang Parade at cost price RM18. I think the price of the shirt depends on the number of colors on the shirt, the shirt quality and the design.
Also, I think there is actually a specific format you have to save your design in...
Can we try try try to get this done before Shaun and Wai Ho leave for the land of maple syrup, that which is known as Canada?

2. Speaking of maple syrup, I like pancakes. OK. So not related. But this surely is: The Choy Brothers & Co. are leaving us for Canada on the 10th of April. So fast right? =(
So before they go pick maple leaves of watch beavers build dams or sing Canadian anthems (think The Simpsons' Ralph Wiggum's version of "O Canada") we should totally go out!!
Soon would be great because (hopefully) nobody is grounded for their March exams results, and the next exam is a long ways away anyway.

3. Now, regarding the post about my personal life... I don't really have a personal life anymore. Not taking into account the 20 or so institutions of higher learning, universities and potential financial aid providers I have applied to, I just found out my old school has been selling my information to colleges and universities around the country.
Just the other day I received a text message from a Science & Technology university saying that I could graduate with Honest. Seriously. Honest. For those of you who are unclear as to what the joke is, the correct word is Honours.
So, no personal life for me due to the fact that my entire life from the time I was in Form 4 up to now is splashed all over Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and Malaysia. Yes, I am applying to that many places. Like free. Which it is.

On a different note, you can all lend a hand in helping me bring David Cook and his awesomeness to KL by clicking on this little widget.

By clicking on it, you help me. And when you help me, you help yourself. How, you ask? Well, for one thing, if you don't click on the widget (such a simple thing to do!), I will continue posting unbelievably long winded posts here (such as this one). So isn't it so much easier to just click the damn widget?

4. I have been really considering that one for a very long time. Exposing SNAWD to juniors, that is. People like Jia Jun, Jonathan, etc etc have really been around for a very long time. Plus there are others like Kah Chun, Chok etc who are going to be around for what is hopefully, a very long time too.
The thing is, how are we going to expose them to it? I can invite them to blog, but there is a chance they may just be like Rocky, who joins yet does not blog. =o
Speaking of exposure, I am really hoping that even non-training team members can start reading this blog. You know why? Because, as you may have noticed, I run ads on the sidebar. So more people who read (and preferably click on) the ads means more money for me. More money for me, means more makan for you guys.
We should totally start promoting our blog to anyone and everyone.

5. The one with the superpro camera that makes everybody look pretty has been away for a week.
Wei Yoong please take note: Take more piccies, please! Especially during training at SS15! If they are nice maybe MHRB will use them for his next advertising campaign?

By the way, wushu exams are this Saturday, 27th March 2010. Ohhhh boy.

things to do

i would like to propose a list of things todo for SNAWD..
  1. the t-shirt, i need sumbody to put it in soft copy.. and can we go submit the designs this sat before SS15 class.. and anybody knows where we can print it with a reasonable price?
  2. We should go take photos!!! Lets have an outing.. it's been so long..
  3. everybody should send in a post.. about an event concerning you right now.. doesnt have to revolve around snawd but around you.. update us about your personal life etc.
  4. expose snawd to juniors=)
  5. we should totally make a video and post pics on classes in SS15, or schools here.. its getting so dead..
What say you guys?=D

?

Am I the only person posting around here?

House Hopping!

Here's what we did during house hopping, for those who were not there:

Julie's House
Met up there at 10am. Or rather, Xiang Ting and I were there earlier and we just waited for the rest to come along. Got angpau from Julie's mom (thank you Aunty) and left around 1040am. I drove, as did Amelia. Xiang Ting, Hou Yi, Yi Mann and Denice were in my car. OMG. My car was so noisy. I felt like dropping them all on the side of the road and going home. But since I'm such a nice person, I did not give in to temptation. =) Julie, Wei Yoong, Amelia and Andrea were in the other car.

Amelia's House
Played cards there. I won RM2! Then I lost RM2. Then I was sad. So I didn't want to play any more. Had drinks, played Heart Attack during which Wei Yoong crushed my fingers. =( Made secret plans to pick up Andrea from Chinese tuition (!!!). Got angpau from Amelia's mum (thanks Aunty!!)

Yi Mann's House
Ate tidbits. Her mum made some longan dessert for us. Mmm... Took some pictures, during which Denice, uh, got squashed by Amelia. Um. Very very hot outside by this time. Got angpau from Yi Mann's mum (thanks Aunty!) and lepak-ed in the cool air for a while.

Rocky's House
ROCKY'S HOUSE IS SO COOL! It's like some resort. A five star resort! By the way, his security guard thinks we are jakuns. His clubhouse is HUGE. Everything is so mewah. Hahaha. Went swimming, splashed around, took pictures, went on the swings, Julie took a nice nap in the sun. Had tea/lunch there. His mom came out to give us angpau (thanks Aunty!) Left really off schedule at around 5pm.

Xiang Ting's House
Drove to Xiang Ting's house. Her whole family was home. Her mom made some dessert for us. I dunno what it's called, but it's super refreshing! One minute we were all like x.x the next we were O.O awake! Ahhh! So nice! Got more angpau (kudos to Aunty) and played more Heart Attack.

Hou Yi's House
Hou Yi's house is huge too! @@ My car arrived first so we all went up to her room (Denice dropped something into the loo. I think it was pretty important to Hou Yi.) =/ And I read her white board. OMG Xiang Ting likes to write stupid things and draw pictures of che kong fan and jian!! Went back down, ate some cookies, took some piccies...

Wei Yoong's House
Already nightfall by the time we got there. His mum, grandma and grandpa (?) were home. Got triple angpau!!! (Thanks Aunty Florence!) Ate some stuff. And then Aunty brought out the photo albums! Jeng jeng jenggg~! OMG! We saw so many many photos of Wei Yoong. It was hilarious! Do you know that even when he was young, he could do some ma bu-like move? HAHAHA We saw Wei Yoong bathing. When he was a kid. LOLOLOLOLOLOLLLLLL!!

MHRB's House
Moseyed over to HRB's place for dinner (sort of). Had KFC *hums theme song* and played with Gwyn. Then HRB drew up some designs for our new costumes. And he tried to charge us money for "consultation fees". =/ And more angpau! (thanks HRB, Aunty JieJie!)

And when we got home, we were so damn tired. I think everyone slept really well that night.

Note to self: Don't do it again next year. Just go to Rocky's house.

Last Class

Yesterday was the last class before Chinese New Year. All the groups went, so as per my previous blog post, I was expecting to be like sardines in a can. But a lot of people didn't show. (Denice) Haha. Brought Julie Ong Superwoman there, sat and did Yi Mann's homework for her (!!) and we talked loudly. Well, Xiang Ting talked loudly, Rocky and I were just confused.

The HRB The Mighty appeared and he told us that there was gonna be some serious, heavy, da yun dong liang today. Xiang Ting was all "@@" and we asked Ah Jieh Laoshi for confirmation so he said "Not less than 20 fen duan" and everyone went

So everyone was standing up to go warm up outside then MHRB said "No need to run lah!" so we all came back in and stood in one line in front of him, like how we usually do at the end of class. MHRB had that sneaky smile on his face like when he has torture in mind, so everyone got really scared. You know...The Face...

And he stared at us and asked "What are you all doing la?" so we said "Dunno". We are so blur right.

Anyway...

HRB Us

Today! Jogging! 15 minutes!
Ha...?
Two sets!
HA...????
Then hou mian bu lian le!
YAYYYYY!

So that's what we did, people! Jog for 30 minutes and then partay! Whee!

From Me, To SNAWD

Do bump up your volume a lil' and set your equalizer to Pop, cause it's barely audible.

Wah

I tell you arh, tonight training sure full like sardines in a can wan. Aihs....

Monday, February 8, 2010

I think if any one of us was ever in trouble and needed a gang to:
: back us up
: beat somebody up
: scare somebody
: help us out
: intimidate somebody

all we'd have to do is ask.

And the Mighty shall answer.

Julie Ong We Love You

Today, Xiang Ting, Hou Yi, Yi Mann, Ling Ling, Wan Chee and I went to visit the Julie Ong at her house. Here you can see how kesian she is. =(

She didn't sound or look too cheerful today. I guess she was pretty upset. Maybe you could call her to brighten up her day? I think she needs it. =(
